The basic level I police training was completed today at the Agency for Education and Professional Training (AEPTM) by 117 cadets of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina and 49 cadets of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies. At a formal ceremony, the Director of AEPTM, Marko Vujević, presented them with certificates confirming the rank of “police officer,” after which, in front of the Deputy Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ivica Bošnjak, they took an oath that in their work they will abide by the Constitution and laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that they will perform all duties and obligations of a police officer conscientiously and responsibly.

The ceremony was attended by a large number of officials from all levels of government, relatives and friends, as well as lecturers, mentors, and instructors of AEPTM who worked with the cadets over the past eight months. Nearly a thousand people greeted the young police officers, while the leadership of the Border Police and DKPT expressed particular satisfaction amid ongoing personnel shortages.

In the introductory part of the ceremony, the cadets were addressed by Director of AEPTM Marko Vujević, Deputy Director of the Border Police of BiH Ensad Korman, Deputy Director of DKPT Goran Amidžić, and Deputy Minister of Security of BiH Ivica Bošnjak. In addition to congratulating the cadets on successfully completing basic police training, the speakers extended words of support and encouragement at the outset of their careers in the country’s police structures, emphasising that the challenging duties ahead will require the lawful application of the knowledge and skills acquired at the agency, with ongoing mentorship in practice.

Director Vujević emphasized the good cooperation with police agencies within the Ministry of Security of BiH, highlighting the continuity in implementing legal competencies related to the organization and delivery of all forms of training in accordance with the expressed needs of SIPA, the Border Police, and DKPT. He called on the cadets to be serious in their work and to continue developing their competencies through various forms of professional and specialized training. “Your operational readiness will contribute to the police agencies in which you will begin working after this ceremony to fully respond to current security challenges,” Vujević concluded.

“Your successful completion of training is the result of dedicated work, discipline, sacrifice, and responsibility you have shown during your education. You have chosen an honorable but demanding profession - to serve the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, protect the state border, and contribute to the security of all citizens in a time of complex security challenges, the fight against cross-border crime, illegal migration, and other forms of crime. The Border Police of BiH has a key role in preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Security, legality, and social stability are protected at the border. That is why your role is very important and significant,” said Deputy Director of the Border Police Ensad Korman, who thanked the AEPTM staff for their professional approach to training implementation, and the EU Office in BiH for its support in the realization and improvement of cadet training.

“To be a police officer means to serve citizens, protect their rights and freedoms, and ensure peace and stability in our society. The DKPT BiH has a specific role in maintaining security, and you, as its new members, will have the opportunity to contribute to the execution of our important tasks. Many challenges lie ahead of you, but I am convinced that through training you have acquired the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully deal with them. In your work, always be guided by the principles of legality, professionalism, and ethics. Wear your uniform with pride and be an example of integrity and responsibility,” said Deputy Director of DKPT Goran Amidžić.

Deputy Minister of Security of BiH Ivica Bošnjak said it was a great honor for him to share these joyful moments with the young police officers of the Border Police and DKPT. As someone who entered police structures in 1979, Bošnjak emphasized that the job of a police officer is not easy due to numerous challenges and the necessity of making difficult decisions. “I would emphasize that when you make decisions, you should have a clear conscience and make good, realistic, and objective decisions. Therefore, you must pay attention to several things. First is learning -education must be permanent and continuous. You must be masters of your profession and your craft. Also, devote attention to professional training and spiritual renewal. Respect the basic principles of human existence. If you adhere to these things, success will certainly not be absent,” said Bošnjak, before whom the cadets repeated the oath after receiving their certificates.

After the awarding of certificates, plaques were also presented to the best-performing cadets of the class : Admir Hrnjica from the Border Police of BiH and Sonja Dunjić from DKPT.

At the end of the ceremony, Director of AEPTM Marko Vujević presented plaques for long-standing successful cooperation and contribution to the work and development of AEPTM to the directors of SIPA, the Border Police, and DKPT—Darko Ćulum, Mirko Kuprešaković, and Enes Karić; to the head of the Police Academy Prvi hrvatski redarstvenik of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Croatia, Josip Ćelić; and to Deputy Minister of Security Ivica Bošnjak.

On behalf of SIPA, Director Darko Ćulum thanked them, as did Josip Ćelić, head of the Police Academy Prvi hrvatski redarstvenik of the Croatian Ministry of the Interior, who conveyed greetings from Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Davor Božinović, and the Director General of the Croatian Police Nikola Milina.

Ćelić said the plaque is a great honor but also an obligation for even higher-quality work on future projects. “We can be proud of the quality of people - experts who continuously improve their knowledge across Europe. We are a partner academy of Frontex, we work extensively through Erasmus at the international level, and we want to offer you all these people. Through our cooperation so far, we have been sending them here for training,” said Ćelić, congratulating the cadets on completing their training and beginning their future careers. “Never stop educating yourselves, because only knowledge can respond to these security challenges. There is no difference in performing duties anywhere in Europe, and the Police Academy in Zagreb is at your disposal with all its capacities and resources,” concluded the head of the Police Academy of the Croatian Ministry of the Interior.
