Close Protection of VIP Persons (Basic Training)

08/05/2026

Based on a request from the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a basic training course titled Close Protection of VIP Persons was held at the Agency for Education and Professional Training over the past two weeks, with the aim of providing participants with fundamental knowledge and skills, as well as training in the implementation of measures and procedures related to close protection duties for VIP persons. The training was conducted for 18 police officers of the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies, whose responsibilities include organising and implementing physical and technical protection of persons and facilities of BiH institutions and diplomatic-consular missions that are specially protected in accordance with laws, international obligations, and other regulations adopted by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

During the training, participants attended modules covering the fundamental principles of VIP protection, planning and organisation of security measures, risk assessment, and procedures in situations involving increased security threats. Special emphasis was placed on practical training segments, during which participants practised techniques and procedures applicable in real operational circumstances.

The training concluded with a tactical demonstration exercise in which participants demonstrated their level of proficiency in operational techniques and readiness to act in complex situations. This final exercise also served as the main examination through which their overall competence was assessed.

The Deputy Director, Predrag Šupljeglav, awarded certificates to the successful participants. “You perform a responsible and demanding job, which is why continuous improvement of knowledge and skills is essential. Considering current events both worldwide and in our country, situations can be expected in which your engagement will be required, and everything learned and practised here will need to be applied in practice,” said Deputy Director Šupljeglav, emphasising that the organisation of such training courses at the agency would continue in the future in cooperation with certified instructors.

The training was led by a team of instructors from the Directorate for Coordination of Police Bodies, composed of officers with extensive experience in the field of VIP protection, with the support of instructors from our agency. Certificates of appreciation were also presented today to Directorate instructors Igor Babić, Davor Anđelić, Samir Išerić, Muamer Klin and Alen Mujkanović for their many years of successful cooperation in the implementation of specialist training programmes, preparation of curricula and training programmes, and manuals in the field of close protection of VIP persons.
