FRONTEX Interoperability Assessment Programme

09/06/2025

Police officers of the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who completed their Basic Police Training Level I at the Agency for Education and Professional Training on April 25 of this year, participated on June 5 in the FRONTEX Interoperability Assessment Programme (IAP) 2024–2025. This programme is part of a broader concept of aligning basic police training in the field of border protection, conducted by the European Border and Coast Guard Agency FRONTEX, with the goal of verifying knowledge following the completion of basic police training.

The knowledge and competency assessment programme, as outlined in the Common Core Curriculum (CCC 2022) for border police training, is implemented uniformly in both European Union member states and partner countries such as Bosnia and Herzegovina. This assessment allows for the comparability of the level of acquired knowledge and skills in line with EU standards.

A total of 20 former cadets of the Border Police took part in the competency assessment within the framework of the FRONTEX Interoperability Assessment Programme (IAP) 2024–2025. This activity confirmed Bosnia and Herzegovina’s readiness to implement international training standards in the field of national border protection.

It is noteworthy that Bosnia and Herzegovina is among only four non-EU countries that have aligned their Level I and II Border Police cadet training curricula with the CCC 2022 standards, demonstrating a strong commitment to the professionalization of police officers in accordance with the best European practices. Participation in the IAP programme is a confirmation of both the quality of the developed curriculum and the cadets’ ability to meet the demands of modern border security.

The assessment was conducted via the Moodle electronic platform, and all delegated cadets successfully participated in the final test. The activity was supervised by FRONTEX experts Ivana Herceg and Alen Panić, as well as national coordinators Selvedin Sakić and Minja Klarić, who ensured a professional implementation of the evaluation. Preparatory activities also included a trial version of the exam, giving cadets the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the digital testing environment.

Bosnia and Herzegovina’s participation in the Interoperability Assessment Programme once again underlines the importance of strategic cooperation with FRONTEX and represents a significant step towards strengthening the country’s capacity in the field of police training and professional development. The Agency for Education and Professional Training remains committed to further harmonizing curricula and enhancing European standards in police education.
