7th INTERPA conference

Elvir Velić, Asisstant Director for Training, participated on behalf of the Agency for Education and Professional Training at 7th annual conference of the International Police Academies Association (INTERPA) that took place in Doha (Qatar) on April 2-4, 2018.
The topic of the Conference that brought together 105 representatives of police academies from 38 countries, 47 institutions and 5 international organizations was 'New Trends in Combatting Terrorism and Extremism'. The keynote speaker was Prof. Dr. Mehmet Akif KİREÇCİ from the Bilkent University (Head of the Ankara Political and Econimic Reserach Centre). The six sessions of the Conference and 21 presented papers were devoted to the topic such as ' The process of radicalization - various types of radicalization ', 'Political violence and fight against terrorism', with a focus on proper family relations and the role of the family in combatting terrorism, 'Handling and Management of Crowds in Major Events and Occasions in Terms of Combating Terrorism and Extremism, Combating Extremism in Global Sport Events', 'Struggle Against Terrorist Organizations and Visual Language Used By Terrorist Organizations'. The fifth and sixth sessions were reserved for the presentations about individual cases of struggle against terrorism in some INTERPA member countries where terrorism and religious extremism represent a threat to the national security, and about the important segment of cooperation between the police and the public prosecutor, as one of the most important requirements for the effectiveness of the preliminary proceedings in the fight against terrorism.
The General Council considered and approved 5 new applications for membership in the Association INTERPA that now consists of 72 institutions from 56 countries. Professor Doctor Yilmaz COLAK thanked the Qatari authorities and members of the Police College of Qatar for organizing such a commendable event and their hospitality on behalf of all INTERPA members.
